Highlights

  • News content: you can generate a lot of attention and followers if you cover the news regularly instead of just sharing sporadic insights
  • Regularity and consistency is super important. You have to be on the platforms a lot and share a lot of content consistently around it
  • Quality of writing matters. Writing better is better. You’ll build muscle memory over time When you’re shit at writing, no one is going to read you
  • Don’t be too bothered by metrics. Some useful ones are users, new users, pageviews, time spent etc
  • Early on, social really maters. It tops out really quickly. Then, Google becomes a very important source over time
  • Things compound over time. Keep at it
  • Mix of content: just right a lot. Eventually, you’ll get the mix right. Do a mixture of explainers, deep dives, and what’s new
  • Adhere to traditional journalistic rules to build trust. Don’t build a media brand around your SaaS company. Just build a media brand
  • Has to be a Mix of writing about current events and evergreen content
  • Adding trend charts, graphics, and other things that have context over time really matters
